Adenupoye Akinbolade 6th November 2010

Tribute to a Motivator and Patriot per Excellence. It was summer holiday ,July 1974. University students were swarming all over the place looking for vacation jobs. Someone advised me to go to University of Ibadan, Niser section. Of course all Idanre students know who the erudite Dr Adeniyi was. I got lucky and got a job for environmental research studies to be conducted at Port Harcourt. I still recollect his statement as we were preparing to travel. “You don’t have to advertise that you are from Idanre from your discussion every time.” We were that many in the group. In 1992- 1993, as a staff of the Directorate of Foods, Roads and rural Infrastructures ( DFFRI). Two of us from Idanre Dr. Adegunleye Francis and I got advance knowledge of the establishment of Community Banks in Nigeria. I went to Prof., Sir I need traveling assistance to Idanre to facilitate this opportunity,. He sponsored many of my trips and at the end, two Community Banks were established for our people. When I was prematuredly retired from the Federal Service in 1999, he administered to me the Balm of Gilead. We belong to the same Church then. He visited me as I wallowed in bitterness and misery. “You have to thank God because you could have died. Yours is one of such situation where Christians and Children of God ask—why me oh God,-- but take heart because God has a purpose for your life”. That counsel healed my bruised heart and gave me hope. How can I pay tribute to Prof Adeniyi enough?. If there was any occurrence that convinced me within the limit of human understanding of the existence of Gods power in the affairs of mortal beings in this terrestrial world, it was the miracle God wrought for me using him as the instrument. The story was long but the short end was as follows. I needed some money for an urgent and compulsory project which if it failed would have put me in serious embarrassment. No where to turn to. As the spirit led me to his office on the day in question little did I know that one of his numerous International projects in which I was a Resource Consultant needed more work. Both of us and another colleague has no prior arrangement to meet that day. As he issued cheques to us later the same day he said “gentlemen, I am not used to advancing money for projects on Friday for obvious reasons, but because I want you to start this work early on Monday you need money urgently”. Little did he know that the previous night I had knelt down and challenged Jesus in despiration as I prayed “Lord Jesus, if I failed today and I am put to shame, you are my only remaining friend and its you that is put to shame “. As I collected the cheque that would provide far above my needs that day, I heard a clear voice in my inner man saying—“ now you know I can never be put to shame”. Prof. E. O. Adeniyi, you were God”s messenger for me . I wish I can compose an Ode for You and sing a melodious song --- but all I can say is :- Roses in the valley, where lilies are growing, My memories of you shall never never fade. From Engr. Dr. Jones Ade Akinbolade. a.k.a. Prof Cardinal Ashigaga.
